Advent may be my favorite part of the church year. We’re hunkering down for winter; Christmas lights are out; it snows a few times, probably, but without shutting the city down. More than that, though, I love how Advent is a time to look around and see the pain of the world or of ourselves. It is a time to see the pain of waiting, and sometimes its joy, and to rejoice that God is with us through it all. It’s a time of honest lament seeded through with celebration.
All this to say (besides, of course, that I love Advent): I contributed to Words for Waiting, an Advent devotional put together by UKirk (the Presbyterian Church (USA)’s college ministry).
